The flag shown on one of the
stamps issued for the unveiling of the Hadzi Dimitar monument in 1935 (Mi
294) was used by the 19th century Bulgarian freedom fighters. The flag
shows a golden lion on green background, and is reproduced in colour below.
The inscription on the flag is also quoted at the bottom of the stamp and
means 'Freedom or Death!'. The original flag is kept in the Sofia
War Museum.
